If you are interested in adopting any of our cats, please phone our Coordinator Susan, for a chat on 01722 - 718774. We will then arrange for a home visit by one of the branch volunteers to ensure we are matching the cat’s personality and background to the potential home environment, and to answer any questions you may have. For example, an excitable young tearaway cat might not suit an elderly person who wants a lap cat, nor would a timid cat be suitable for a busy household with children and dogs.
Assuming we have suitable cats or kittens for you, you can then arrange to visit them at their fosterer’s. There is no obligation to have one of our cats if you don’t see one that suits you. If you do decide to adopt, you can take the cat when you are prepared at home with litter tray and food and when the cat or kitten is ready. Don’t forget you will need a secure cat carrier for the journey, but often we have good quality second-hand carriers available for sale.
You will be asked to sign a form undertaking to look after the cat and to neuter him or her if too young to have been done. Neutering is an absolute condition of adoption. All cats are, if old enough, vaccinated, microchipped and neutered before they are rehomed.
The fosterer will explain any dietary requirements or anything specific to be aware of in the cat’s history.
When you get the cat home, it is important to keep him or her in for at least three weeks. If you have any questions, you can ring the Branch coordinator. There is a follow-up visit or phone call after a few weeks.
All our cats are examined by our vets prior to rehoming which includes:
- Microchipping
- Vaccination
- Worm/Flea treatments
- Neutering
- Full health check
- 6 Weeks Free Petplan Insurance
DONATION
On average, we spend £150 on each cat prior to rehoming - food and litter, vaccinations, any vet bills, and so on. We don’t sell cats, but we do ask for a donation as a contribution towards the costs of their care and also as a sign of your commitment. We suggest between £50 and £75 as an appropriate amount.
